THIS CAR
  • 1 of only 402 Junior Zagatos ever built with the more powerful 1600 twin-cam engine.
    • Only ~125 of these examples remain, making this a seriously rare and collectible little Alfa.
  • Still presenting in its original factory specification of Grigio Metallizzato over Tessuto Plastificato Nero (Black Vinyl).
  • Delivered new on the 11th February 1974 to its first owner, Dr. Mossiat, in Belgium.
  • The car was sold to its second owner in 1981, and then again to its third in the summer of 1988 by the name of ‘Max Verstappen‘ – believed to be the uncle of the current F1 driver!
  • The next couple of decades saw the car benefit from a full restoration (see below), before being imported to the UK following its acquisition by the current owner in 2021.
  • Since then, the car has been meticulously maintained by Alfa 105 series guru, Neville Byford.
    • The current engine fitted to the car – AR00526A*B9397 – is not an original 1600 Zagato unit, but the original 1600 Zagato block (AR00536*16141) is included with the sale of the car.
  • The suspension has been totally overhauled, using Koni Sport dampers and a sports anti-roll bar at the front.
  • What’s more, the owner has acquired an original set of Cromodora Star alloy wheels, which are currently fitted to the car.
  • Most recently in January 2023, Neville carried out a full engine rebuild – to the tune of almost £5,000 – using Classic Alfa ‘fast road’ camshafts.
RESTORATION
  • Between 2002-2004, the car benefited from a total body & mechanical restoration (photos on file).
  • Every single panel was stripped back to bare metal, repaired where necessary, and then repainted and refitted.
  • These 1600 Junior Zagatos are rare enough as it is, but to find one that’s had the body restored and protected from rust is even more special!
  • During the restoration, the original interior was retained, including the fabulous Zagato embossed carpets, which still all present rather beautifully today.
