ABOUT THIS CAR
THE MODEL
The Porsche Boxster 986 was the first generation of Porsche’s mid-engined sports car, produced from 1996 to 2004. The car was designed as an entry-level model, aimed at attracting younger buyers to the Porsche brand.
Development of the Boxster began in the early 1990s, with the goal of creating a modern version of the classic Porsche 550 Spyder.
The Boxster was unveiled at the 1996 Paris Motor Show and immediately received critical acclaim for its sleek styling, balanced handling, and lively performance. In its first guise it featured a 2.5-liter flat-six engine that produced 201 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, with an optional Tiptronic automatic transmission available.
Over the years Porsche made several updates to the Boxster, including a more powerful 2.7-liter engine, and a 3.2-litre ‘S’ model in 2000.
