ABOUT THIS CAR
They said it would never sell …
THE MODEL
The original Mini was produced from 1959-2000, with a variety of engines and body types along the way.
The Mk III Mini, produced between 1969-1967, featured a number of mechanical and design improvements over its predecessor, including a new winding window mechanism and internally hung doors.
The Mk III Mini, of which ours is one, was produced between 1969-1976. As with most Mini’s there weren’t any huge changes, however sliding windows had been replaced with winding ones, and the door hinges had gone from externally hung, to internally hung.
The Mk III’s engine was the popular 998cc inline-4 unit with a single SU carburettor, producing 39bhp in standard factory tune.
Drive was delivered through a 4-speed manual transmission, and stopping was achieved by drum brakes all-round, surrounded by 10″ wheels.
THIS CAR
This particular car began its life in Ireland, and was purchased by its current UK owner in the spring of 2016.
Upon purchasing the car, the Mini was brought over and officially registered in the UK, with a plan to overhaul the car into a fully rally prepared machine.
The original shell was replaced with a Cooper S shell, and like wise with the engine, which was replaced with a 1275cc A-Plus unit.
The engine and gearbox were completely stripped and rebuilt by Maulden Garage.
